Mateus Sartori was Born in Franca, a small city in the state of São Paulo. He was struck by music at a very early age, during his family reunions. He was highly influenced by his grandfather Waldomiro, who played several instruments, and his mother Cidinha. He joined the UMC (Universidade de Mogi das Cruzes) Choir at the age of 13, when he was already living in Mogi das Cruzes. He received the attention and guidance of conductor Dulce Primo, who helped him to build his musical knowledge. He entered the Escola Municipal de Música de São Paulo in 1996 to continue his musical studies. A year later, he entered the Universidade Livre de Música Maestro Tom Jobim. These two institutions are considered two very important musical schools in the country. While Sartori was studying Architecture, he became more and more involved with music. In 1996, he participated in the Curitiba Music Festival. This was the first of many festivals he would take part on, such as Campos do Jordão, Curitiba, Londrina and Juiz de Fora. During these festivals, he was able to share information and experiences with artists like Guinga, Jane Duboc, Mônica Salmaso, Consilha La Torre, Clara Sandroni, Grupo Vocal Garganta Profunda and many other important names of the Brazilian Popular Music. These experiences had a great impact on his artistic life and his songs would not the same anymore. He carefully chose each song he performed and thought about every detail of his presentations with determination and perfectionism. In 2006, he launched his first CD: “TODOS OS CANTOS”. His unforgettable voice was for the first time recognized by its fine tuning, nuance and density. Mario Gil was in charge of the its musical production and the CD had the special participation of Guinga, Renato Braz and Nailor “Proveta”. By the end of 2007, Sartori launched the CD “DOIS DE FEVEREIRO”, a tribute to the composer from Bahia, Dorival Caymmi. Rodolfo Stroeter directed the project and eight renowned Brazilian guitar players took part on it: Guinga, Paulo Bellinati, Webster Santos, Mario Gil, Jardel Caetano, Edmilson Capelupi, Diego Figueiredo e Chido Saraiva. The CD received considerable attention from the media all over the country and he was able to perform this show in some important Brazilian music spaces: Auditorio Ibirapuera (SP), Museu de Arte da Pampulha (BH), SESCs in the city and interior of São Paulo, and others. In 2009, he launched the project VILA DE SANT’ANNA, aiming to record and divulge the musical production of Mogi das Cruzes. As a result of this project, Sartori produced and recorded the CD “BARROCO”, with songs from eleven different composers from Mogi. In 2009, he recorded the song “Meu Lamento” accompanied by the renowned guitar player Alessandro Penezzi in the CD “100 ANOS DE ATAULFO ALVES”. Other important artists that participated on this project were: Elza Soares, Simoninha, Beth Carvalho, Ná Ozetti, Fafá de Belém and Elba Ramalho. In 2010, together with the singer Fabiana Cozza, he recorded the songs “Jogue a Chave” and “Não tem Solução” part of the CD “100 ANOS ADONIRAN BARBOSA”. Before the end of the year, he will launch the CD “FRANCISCOS NA VOZ DE MATEUS SARTORI”, produced by the pianist Tiago Costa. This will be the third CD of his career, a result of the extensive research Sartori has conducted since 2008, listening to the work of many artists, from Chico Anysio to Chico Buarque, from samba composer Chico da Silva to Chico César, and from the older Francisco Mattoso to the youngest Chico Saraiva. The repertoire pays a tribute to ten “Franciscos and Chicos” from the Brazilian music, from several different periods, styles, sonorities and personalities, such as: Chico Buarque, Chico César, Chico Anysio, Chico Pinheiro, Chico Saraiva, Chico Amaral, Chico da Silva, Francisco Itamar Assumpção, Francisco Mattoso and Francisco Bosco. This “mosaic” puts together pieces of different sizes, materials and textures, culminating in a real artwork. Built around the theme and the modern sonority with original and bold arrangements, the CD “FRANCISCOS” has the participation of important Brazilian musicians in addition to the special participations of Chico César and Chico Pinheiro. |
